Leah grew up near Cincinnati, Ohio. She began playing piano at a young age and began playing the horn in 5th grade. She was part of an outstanding band program in the Lakota Local Schools. During high school, she was a member of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra and the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department Brass Choir. She also studied privately with Karen Schneider. After a decision to pursue a career in music, Leah attended Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. In 2004, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a dual Bachelor of Music in horn performance and music education. While at Ithaca College, Leah studied with Alex Shuhan. Continuing her studies of the horn, Leah then attended The University of Texas at Austin to study with Patrick Hughes. She received a Master of Music degree in 2007. Leah currently lives in Bridgewater, New Jersey, where she works as a horn performer and teacher. Leah's performance experience includes a wide range of ensembles and styles. At Ithaca College, Leah played principal in the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra. She also played with the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, Brass Choir, and numerous chamber ensembles. At The University of Texas, Leah played principal in the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of the longHORN choir and a variety of chamber ensembles. She has performed in recitals in Ohio, New York, Texas, and New Jersey. Leah also has extensive experience in the theatre, playing in the pit orchestra for over 30 shows, including two seasons with the College Light Opera Company in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Leah offers lessons to students of all ages and levels of experience in Central New Jersey. In her teaching, Leah provides broad pedagogical knowledge with a personal touch to create a challenging yet supportive environment for each student. Her instruction is unique for each student based on his or her learning style and ability. She strives to create positive working relationships with her students while challenging them to improve their playing skills, musicality, and musical knowledge. In addition to Leah's work as a horn player, she is a skilled semi-professional photographer. Most of her body of work is outdoor scenes, both in color and black and white, however, she also has taken photos at weddings and receptions. In her photography, Leah strives to find the uncommon viewpoint of common subjects and enjoys capturing textures, lines, and the contrast of light and shadow.
